Dom Paul
Benoit, O.S.B. (1893-1979)
Organist,
Composer, Benedictine Roman Catholic Priest
Benoit became organist at
the Abbey of Saint Maurice et Clervaux, Luxemborg in 1933.
His compositions are mostly based on Gregorian chant and are liturgical
in nature. They are modern
impressionistic, rather reminiscent of Claude Debussy rather than the annoying
compositions of recent composrs for the organ.
Some of his works can be heard on .
His published works
include:
Fifty Elevations
Sixty Devotional Pieces
Esquisses Liturgiques.
These works are
particularly useful during Lent.
They are of easy to moderate difficulty
with easy pedal parts. Piece
durations range from 2 to 5 minutes, are quiet, and cry out for soft stops with
celeste.
