Wabash Valley Chapter of
the American Guild of Organists Scholarships - Grant and scholarship guidelines -
A scholarship fund is maintained by the treasurer of the
chapter to underwrite and support the professional development of organists
and organ students in the Wabash Valley. Financial support will be
available for organ-related study, organ-related professional development, or
organ music. Funds will be distributed annually as long as they are
available and there is a need. Preference will be given to those who work
or hold primary residence in the area served by this chapter.
Funding will come from contributions made at special
scholarship events and from designated or memorial gifts. Because the AGO
is a 501-c-3 organization, gifts to the Scholarship Fund are fully tax
deductible. The fact that a scholarship fund is available to accept
contributions will be made known to AGO members and the public through publicity
and announcements specific to scholarship events and this website. A
scholarship event is one where it is known in advance that contributions will
go directly to the Scholarship Fund as opposed to paying any overhead costs such
as performer fees, use of the facilities, reception foods, etc. It is
anticipated that scholarship events will be held in a facility with overhead
expenses (building, utilities, sexton, etc.) contributed by the host
organization. Members of the board and organization are not expected to be
fundraisers and no fundraising campaign will be held.
A request for funding assistance is to be in the form of
a letter addressed to the dean of the chapter. The letter should include the
amount requested if known, the reason for the request, and how the funds will be
used. The deadline for the dean to receive this letter is June 15 of each
year. Applicants may receive full, partial, or zero funding.
Funds will be awarded and all applications will be acknowledged in writing by
August 1, even it funds are not granted. Those receiving funds are
requested to send a follow-up letter to the Dean of the chapter when the funds
have been spent telling how the funds were used. This is not intended to be a complicated process.
The reasons for having a request letter is so that all candidates for funds can
apply on an equal basis. The follow-up letter is to let the chapter know
that worthwhile work is being done and to encourage the chapter to continue to
sponsor scholarship events. Send your application to:

Gifts to Support
Scholarships
Substantial Gift Possibility: If someone
would like to make a major contribution to establish a perpetually funded
scholarship fund, this can be arranged so that: (1) As long as the Wabash Chapter of the AGO is active, only
the interest from the fund will be available for use for scholarships. (2) If the Wabash Chapter of the AGO should become inactive,
by agreement or by default for over 12 months, the principal from the initial
gift will be transferred to the entity designated by the giver when the gift is
initially given. The initial gift will be placed in an insured bank savings
account There will be no effort to invest the money in
any other way. To make a gift to the Scholarship Fund, contact
the Treasurer.
